Photographs

This photo was provided by Carl Groll, the webmaster for the D186 museum in Germany.

SOMETHING NEW: Former crewman Dave Ristau came up with an alternative way to present his photos - a Google + page. This might be worth trying if you have photos you want to show. I can link to them from this site just like I did for his. Saves me a lot of work (HTML coding) and gives you more control over captions, etc.

The following photos were provided by Bob Sannio. He said "I served on The Adams in 1980. I have very fond memories of my experience. Unfortunately my service was ended early but I take great pride in the short time I was able to serve. I served in the forward fire room."

6/16/09 The following (including comments) were supplied by Darrell Ullisch.
Missile Launch
Adams in Trinidad
The first shot is a missile firing, we were in Puerto Rico qualifying before a planned deployment to Vietnam. While we were there, the truce was signed, and that deployment was canceled. We ended up being sent to the Middle East, instead.
Second shot is the Adams sitting at a pier in Trinidad. It looks a little strange because the USS McCandless DE 1084 was sitting on the other side of the pier, behind her. This was on our way to the Middle East.
Ethiopian patrol boat
Russians in Mauritius
Third shot is an Ethiopian Patrol Boat. There were four, and a group of us had the chance to ride two of them out to an island offshore to what was a fascinating diving/snorkeling site. This was the second such event organized by Mr. Pech, the first having been in Mauritius. I spent a lot of my free time snorkeling off the breakwater at Massawa, observing sea life and collecting a few shells.
Last shot is three Russian ships, Christmas 73 in Port Louis, Mauritius. After weeks at sea, being canceled at two other ports, we were finally given permission to enter here on our voyage homeward. There were several Russians there at the same time, including a sub, cruiser, and I believe a destroyer. Our captain and their Admiral exchanged visits; we had to cover up sensitive materials in CIC for that.

The following photos were taken by me (Jim Bosworth) during my years on the Adams. They are scanned from 36 year old slides and their quality, in many cases, leaves a lot to be desired. The majority of them were taken during the 1972 STANAVFORLANT Cruise.
